Video Surveillance: Motion Detection
Most of our customers will be familiar with my constant gripes about how unreliable video motion detection is.
Well today I am quite upbeat – I am recommending that all our customers consider installation of the full AI enabled XVR when deploying CCTV solutions. Yes it does cost more.
The Challenge of Outdoor Motion Detection
Having been involved with an armed response company for 5 years, I am quite familiar with the difficulties of reliable outdoor intrusion detection – so there must be some value, in my mentioning that I am very impressed with the results that we have achieved using the AI enabled Smart Motion Detection (Plus) system.
I selected a very active family for my testing – the system accurately detected and classified their very busy movements throughout the day, and as they retired indoors – it’s gone very quiet. That takes some doing as there is a blustering wind outside. (Just to mention that the family is aware that we are monitoring their system – once we have it fine tuned, we will let them change their passwords and lock us out)
CCTV Set to become the new all in one Home Security System.
I have taking to writing this post, because I really feel that video surveillance is now on a trajectory to completely replace electric fence, alarm systems and access control systems, as the singular security system for every home.
With SMD+ enabled, this very active family was generating alerts every few minutes, and now having retired indoors at 20.43, and a blustering wind outside, the alerts have quieted. Cam 2 is the only camera running on standard motion detection.
This system accurately detected and classified human and vehicle objects consistently throughout the day. In one instance it accurately detected a human walking with a washing basket over their head.
I am beginning to get the feeling that this family is now safely tucked away inside their home, and are going to be accurately alerted if anyone starts moving about outside their home.
Artificial Intelligence CCTV Keeping Us Safe At Home
It’s really exciting, that we are at the point of using AI to actively and accurately protect us in our homes.
The evolution of this is so rapid, we now have the active deterrence cameras which are combining the work of a cctv camera, outdoor beam, and motion detection spotlight into a single device. If the performance of this SMD + system is a measure of anything, then I am finally beginning to believe that we are making progress towards true pro-active security systems.
