Tires Vanish! Swazi National Pulls Off Daring Durban Depot Caper with Lookalike Truck

What if someone arrived at the entrance gate to your yard, with a truck similar to your trucks and falsified paperwork. Then hooked up a container loaded trailer and drove off with it?

Stolen Tyres! SA roads alert. Container loaded JBF 263 MP trailer missing from Durban depot. Swazi national driver suspected, used a Similar truck, and falsified papers to drive off with a container load of tires.

News reports: Regularly feature incidents of stolen trucks, trailers, and containers, highlighting the ongoing nature of this problem.

But how could the management of this facility have combatted this incident?

  • Having a fully documented license plate detection video surveillance system, specific to your fleet at entrances and exits. A system that logs entrance and exit of the truck or trailer, is able to detect unauthorized plates, flag entrance or exit of a vehicle at an irregular time, and when in combination with a monitored surveillance system would make a significant contribution to preventing this type of incident.
  • Biometric Identification systems applied at entrance and exit points, would specifically identify drivers and assistants, flag unauthorized personnel, or flag authorised individuals in attendance at irregular times. Once again in combination with a video surveillance system that is monitored by security other than those on duty at the gates, this would contribute to preventing this type of incident. Particularly where this system is linkedin to driver and truck movement schedules.
  • Minute. Low powered gps tracking systems that can be concealed in inconspicuous places on the truck, trailer and container would alert operators to the movement of a truck or trailer at an irregular time, or coupled with video footage of the moving vehicle, as well as entrance and exit records of the vehicle, in combination with gps tracking records showing the vehicle to be stationary, would flag an anomaly. These devices would also allow tracking of the units and assist in recovery efforts.
  • Scanning and saving copies of vehicle movement authorizations in a central repository which is accessible to security at entrances and exits, who can then cross check these movements with papers presented to them, will also contribute to preventing these type of incidents.

Here Gensix springs into action.

  • Using our Nvidia jetson based Industrial computers with GPU compute power 100x that of available AI dvr’s and nvrs – we custom train our models on your fleet characteristics. This system is then deployed to log entrance and exit records for vehicles, trailers and containers.
  • The system is linked to your video surveillance control room where operators can observe video footage of vehicle movements, and receive flagged notifications of entrance/exit anomalies – for instance a vehicle with last status as entrance, and a vehicle of the same (fake) license plate attempting to enter the yard without having left are flagged as suspicious. Or undocumented license plates are flagged as suspicious.
  • We deploy facial recognition cameras at your entrance and exit points. Drivers and others attempting to enter through such points must be verified by the facial recognition platform. This system is again linked to the video surveillance control room and personnel roster of scheduled periods. Thus if an employee attempts to enter at an irregular time this is flagged as an anomaly, or if an undocumented person attempts entry.
  • Document scanners are deployed at the source and vehicle movement documentation and authorizations are scanned at source and loaded into a central repository. Guards on duty at entrance and exit points then cross check – using our Industrial Grade machines, the validity of these documents against those presented.
  • We deploy small, easily concealed low powered GPS trackers on trucks, trailers and containers which video surveillance operators in the control room can cross check with gps tracking system, live video footage and entrance/exit logs for each vehicle.

This comprehensive system ensures that incidents similar to the great tire heist, don’t take place at your premises.

PS – I forgot to mention that this system can be leveraged to notify you when a specific vehicle does not return to the yard in a specified period of time.
