Malvern SAPS statement suggests that a growing sense of nonchalance is creating oppurtunities for criminals – in the wake of the latest home invasion in malvern. The statement mentioned that home owners have an attitude of “this won’t happen to me”.
In response to this latest incident, SAPS is recommending that gate operators be locked with moon locks, and that measures are implimented to prevent derailing of gates.
Gensix Technology recommends the application of devices commonly known as “Gate Crash Kits” which will sound your home alarm, when an illegal opening (derail, lifting) of the gate is detected.
The other major contributing issue here according to the statement, is leaving doors and windows open. Open doors and windows alert criminals to circumstances where the occupants are vulnerable, and not alert. In this case the family was seated at the table, having lunch, in full view of would be criminals on the street.
It is a clear reminder that doors and windows should as far as possible be locked, or at least closed – if they provide visibility to the outside world.
