Crime suppressed during Lock-Down.
There are reports of the most significant categories of crime showing substantial decreases during periods of lock-downs.
We also see people putting their security plans on hold during lock-down.
Down But Not Out!
Crime however surges, like the release of tension on a spring, when the lock-downs end.
These increases are probably the consequence of a combination of factors – but they show that putting off your security decisions during lock-down may not be the best decision.
Uptrend in murder – (by extension house and business robberies) expected to continue.
The best measure of the state of our safety are the statistics related to murder. On this front – South Africa shows a continuous uptrend in recording violent murders. In the graph it can be seen that the 2nd largest circumstance leading to murder is Robbery involving homes, business, cars and on the streets.
We should add the on duty security guard and police murders to this as well – since much of these occur during these robberies.
There is no let up of crime, lock-down or not – putting off your home and business security decisions, is not a recommended strategy.
We encourage all home owners and business to prepare their defenses against an increasing trend of violent murder and crime. Don’t get caught by the surge in crime when lock-downs are lifted – it could be too late to act, swiftly enough.
